On the 1st October 2009 Yarpole Community Shop opened its doors for the first time inside St Leonard's Church, its current home. It became the first full-time shop to operate inside a church, open 7 days a week. The culmination of a £250,000.00 community organised project to re-order the church.

Previously the Shop had spent 5 years operating from a portacabin in the grounds of The Bell Inn.

A celebratory bring and share lunch was organised in the church attended by over 50 volunteers, past and present. A total of over 70 volunteers had been engaged with the Shop and gallery Café over the 10 year period. It gave us an opportunity to reflect on the changes that had occurred within the community over the period and to celebrate the vision of the original committee who drove the project forward from a dream to reality. Would they recognise the outcome?

Much has changed but little has changed. We are entirely reliant on our team of volunteers who man the Shop and Café; often putting in extra time and effort. We are also grateful to the hard work put in by our employed staff. After The Bell Inn we are the largest employer in the village.

A toast was raised to the next 10 years and to the next generation of volunteers. If you feel you would like to volunteer in either the Café or the Shop please follow the link. Volunteer here.
